Today I am sitting here at the local Cracker Barrel in front of my favorite spot “The Fireplace”.

I always like a good fire. I can sit and watch a fire for hours …. watching the flames dance, listening to the crackle, seeing the contents being consumed.

It got me to thinking about one of the ways the Holy Spirit works in our lives. At my home I burn my trash, I separate the glass and metal first because it will not burn, then burn the paper and soft stuff.

I believe that the Holy Spirit works in our lives very similar.

Some of us are hard, brittle, not easily moved just like the metal and glass; and, some are soft, tender, teachable, more willing to follow, and easily consumed like the paper and other items.

For our “God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:29 NIV

The paper, soft stuff, metal, and glass represent the works of the flesh. One of the representations of the Holy Spirit is fire. The Holy Spirit was sent to help us while we are here on this earth and help us in this journey as a Christian.

Metal and Glass will not burn but if the heat is hot enough it will melt. Some of us have strong personalities and are like the metal and glass. The fire has to be turned up very hot to accomplish what God desires for our lives. Others are more willing to allow God to have his way in our lives and progress more quickly in the work God has for them.

All of us will experience the fire. It’s just how HOT will it get. Our choices have a lot to do with how hot the fire will get, So let us choose God’s way and not our own.

God has a plan for your life. Let us be willing to allow him to lead us to that destination.
